What is Avalon to you?

Well? Anyone?

Avalon to me is the continuation of Hy Brasil, the Celtic Otherworld, the Eternal Summerland mythos, Elysium and suchforth. It is also much, much more and with centuries of accretion has gained a certain level of mythic potency.

Always a welcoming home to return to. A celebration of the sacred feminine.
A resting place for the weary traveler. mythic, physical, emotional. A source of female power, peace love magic.
    Blessed be.

To me, avalon is a faire that I used to go to in Vancouver. There was jousting and great food. It was full of interesting people and all sorts of fabulous things to buy.

Avalon is also the place that King Arthur retired to when he passed on into the next phase of his existance. Either way I wouldnot mind visiting one of these places for the first time or once again.

Actually, Avalon is centered on Chalice Well, Glastonbury. Combined with the White Spring and the Tor and the upland approaches to the three site.

I am a Companion of Chalice Well. I'm here looking for those people who are interested in the real place - what is there now and what was there then. I give workshops on Chalice Well throughout the Ohio region (that's where I am). Most Pagan types get tongue-tied when they come to realize that nothing is lost in the mists. Avalon is not reached by meditation or chants. You take the A363....

For those who do not know. Chalice Well is the Red Spring - the place known in all of those stories featuring a "Priestess of the Well" at the foot of the Great Tor. 11 feet down below the current well head is the original place. Excavations were done in the 1970's. It was there then - it is here now. People will be hearing a great deal more from the Companions of the Well in the near future. There are 3800 Companions of the Well. Interested?

I am one of several authors who are Companions of the Well. I wrote - A Dragon Rises, a very Pagan sword and sorcery novel set about 30 years after the death of Arthur (most probably in 511 AD). In doing research for the book, I worked as a digger at the Camelot site (the hill fortress at South Cadbury, Somerset) on two trips over two digging seasons. I've got photos, maps, papers to post on both the Well and the fortress.

    Write back.

Avalon is the sacred place of Divine feminine where magic and miracles occurred and which exists in the realms of the true REAL. So many are caught up in the illusion and think it is what is real- but truly it is through the mists of Avalon that the Real and the True exist- It is a return to the Heart, High Magic, Feminine and Creativity in its highest form. We all long for the magic and the return of the lost Camelots and so getting in touch with the feeling of Avalon helps us to regain our power and balance the feminine within whether we are male or female, so we can again be the magicians, priestesses, Goddesses and Gods we were meant to be.
